Angelina Jolie Draws Flak Over Cleopatra Role, Justin Bieber ‘Somebody to Love’ Video Out

The African American community has expressed its disapproval with Angelina Jolie to portray the role of the legendary Queen of Nile, Cleopatra. It hasn’t been confirmed that Angelina will officially portray the role. They believe that a black woman should portray the role of Cleopatra. Elizabeth Taylor portrayed the role in 1963.
The film’s producer believes that Jolie would best fit the new Cleopatra as she has “the prefect look.” The new Cleopatra film will be based on Pulitzer Prize Winning Author Stacy Schiff’s book “Cleopatra: A Life.”
Okay given the fact that Jolie has almost the same looks as Cleopatra, the same voluptuous lips, the same grace in movement, and that she adopted 2 black children (I’m not quite sure if Cleopatra adopted black kids too, LOL). That doesn’t mean that Jolie can already portray the role of Cleopatra.
We had already seen a white woman portray the role back in 1963; maybe the first movie was not that good because they lack technology and ideas that time. Aren’t we excited how the film would turn out if Cleopatra would be played by a woman who shares the same traits, colors as her? Say like Halle Berry, Gabrielle Union, Zoe Saldana or Vanessa Williams?
In another news that definitely has no flak about it is Justin Bieber releasing the music vid of his new song “Somebody to Love” that features his mentor Usher.
Have you not heard it? Have you not seen it? Justin Bieber’s latest music video, ‘Somebody To Love’ has premiered and is out for all Justin Bieber fans to enjoy and scream their lungs out for.
Usher himself found the video to be incredible. He shouted this statement to Justin Bieber fans who cheered in agreement in return. Directed by Dave Meyers, the same guy who directed music videos for Britney Spears and Avril Lavigne, ‘Somebody To Love’ was shot last May and basically showed more of the dancing skills of Justin which he teased everyone with in the video ‘Baby.’
And while the past Justin Bieber videos all had a story intertwined, this new one did not, and basically has Bieber dancing with other artists to the club pop tune. There were also references to his last collaboration with Karate Kid because ninja dancers can also be seen in the video sporting martial arts moves through flames.
Meyers, the director, really wanted Justin Bieber to adapt into the different styles of the dancing world. And although there was a scene where Justin Bieber was even riding a bicycle, the real focus was still in Justin’s dancing. Meyers wanted the video to be clean and all about dancing.

Cleopatra didn’t shares the same traits, colors as Halle Berry, Gabrielle Union, Zoe Saldana or Vanessa Williams because Cleopatra was not black. She was a white Queen who belonged to the Ptolemaic Dynasty, a Dynasty of European rulers established after the Greeks took rule over Egypt when Alexander the Great conquered the country. Having a black actress play this white historical Queen would be as inaccurate as having a white actress play Winnie Mandela. For the record the Ptolemies inbred to preserve their Greek-Macedonian royal lineages. They didn’t intermix with the lower classes of whom they ruled over.

The many Egyptians I know do not consider themselves black (or Africans for that matter). They check off the “white” box on EEO codes and think of themselves primarily as Arabs. Their skin color is not dark, as they are from the northern part of the continent. Still, Cleo was of Greek and Macedonian descent (Ptolemy’s heirs). So think this controversy is a little misguided. What isn’t misguided is the fact that there are many talented black actresses who rarely get to work in Hollywood. Women such as Viola Davis and Thandi Newton come immediately to mind. Now that is something that needs to be addressed, but unfortunately probably never will be.

I totally agree with the above comments – Cleopatra was not black but Greek/Macedonian. I think some people just have a huge chip on their shoulder and perhaps should learn the facts before spouting off. History has been written and cannot be changed to suit the colour of someone’s skin. No one should try to put their belief or culture into historic events. It is well known that a lot of history is written by the victor and we don’t always know the truth but in this case, it is well documented that Cleopatra was of European origin. I agree that there are many excellent black actresses and actors – Will Smith immediately comes to mind as one of my favourites!

Hilke Thuer
Using state-of-the-art facial reconstruction and forensic techniques with anthropological and architectural analysis of the tomb, the experts are convinced that the skeleton is the remains of Cleopatra’s sister, Princess Arsinoe, who was murdered on Cleopatra’s orders. Archaeologist Hilke Thuer from the Austrian Academy of Science, who led the team, said: “The results of the forensic examination and the fact that the facial reconstruction shows that Arsinoe had an African mother is a real sensation which leads to a new insight on Cleopatra’s family and the relationship of the sisters Cleopatra and Arsinoe.”
Cleopatra absolutely is an African woman. It is Scientific racism to suggest that a queen from Africa was somehow a white woman with no link to the African people, in Egypt, who were certainly for thousands of years a mixed mainly black people and you come yet again whitewashing this exotic place? bring it and crash n burn . She was at the VERY LEAST mixed race. Funny how we seem to have “lost” the mothers identity isnt it? hmmm.. Every African except those who are of arab decent know Cleopatra to have been a mixed race woman, not a white woman. it is so sick.

That’s true, it should be a Black Women despite the “Financial Interests”, and they should stop referring to Cleopatra as an “Egyptian” also. She was a “Macedonian”, her mother and father were Bathsheba and Hermotle, and her brother was Jehoshaphat. Believe me I know!

Cleopatra was not Greek at all, nor did she marry Caesar, she also had no sister that’s all lies, only a brother they falsely called him Ramses II but their was no Ramses II only Ramses I and Ramses III because they were both King Tut’s Re-incarnations.
