Under a bill that passed the US House of Representatives Wednesday, a person with a concealed-carry permit and a photo identification from one state would be able to have a gun hidden in their clothes in any other state that allows such permits.

The bill, H.R. 38, will allow Americans who legally hide carry firearms to do so in other states. "We now call on the Senate to take up and pass this critical legislation".

Most states grant hide and carry permits but issuance standards vary significantly between jurisdictions.

And while we strongly oppose recent additions that give "extra-special gun rights" to Federal judges and other government workers which are not available to law-abiding citizens, we will continue to work towards passage of a strong carry reciprocity framework as well as communicate our concerns and suggestions for reasonable, commonsense amendments to better protect law-abiding people. And under the law being pushed by the NRA right now, those individuals would be allowed to legally carry a weapon in NY.

House Republicans threw their support behind gun violence once again this week with their approval of legislation that would require states to honor concealed-carry permits from other states. This is completely false. The concealed-carry bill "is the culmination of a 30-year movement recognizing the right of all law-abiding Americans to defend themselves and their loved ones, including when they cross state lines", said Chris W. Cox, executive director of the group's political and lobbying arm.

Supporters of the bill have argued that the patchwork of existing laws, varying from state to state, can create confusion for lawful gun owners and turn them into criminals by simply crossing state lines. No member of Massachusetts' all-Democratic House delegation voted for it. During the committee markup of the bill, Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee Rep. They were among 14 national Republicans to vote no on the bill.

"Gun regulations for law-abiding firearm owners are often confusing and redundant", said Faso, who covers parts of the Hudson Valley and Southern Tier, in a statement. This bill requires a response to an appeal within 60 days.
