A Pakistani court has rejected the government's plea to extend for three more months the house arrest of a USA -wanted militant who founded a banned group linked to the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attack.

Saeed had filed an application in the Lahore High Court, challenging the order for extension of his house arrest.

The Judicial Review Board rejected a request from the government of Pakistan to extend Saeed's detention by three months.

Hafiz Saeed is scheduled to be released on Thursday.

In October, the Board extended Saeed's detention by 30 days, but with today's announcement, the house arrest sentence was lifted. He had been placed under house arrest in January.

While the Pakistani courts have once again given Hafiz Saeed a breather, USA seems to be on the same page with India.

India has repeatedly asked Pakistan to re-investigate the Mumbai terror attack case and also demanded trial of Saeed and Lashkar-e-Taiba operations commander Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi in the light of evidence it had provided to Islamabad.

A provincial law officer had told the Lahore High Court during the last hearing that a provincial review board would review Saeed's detention.

In a video message after his release, Saeed claimed that he was detained because of his associations with the disputed Kashmir region.

"The government can not afford to set Saeed free in the current circumstance".

"The representatives and officials of the government and ministries were all saying that I should not be freed but the judges heard all their arguments and set them aside and ordered my release", he said. His party had moved to court against the arrest and the matter was then referred to the review board. "It can not face an global backlash in the event of releasing the JuD chief".

Following the decision, Mastermind of Mumbai 26/11 attack will be freed tomorrow.
