James, a 13-time All-Star, is perennially the top vote getter in the East and received the most votes in the National Basketball Association last season.

Twelve players will still be selected from each conference for the February 18th game.

Players and league officials have been eager to inject new interest in the often defense-absent game, and they made a decision to act after another boring affair last February in New Orleans.

"I'm thrilled with what the players and the league have done to improve the All-Star Game, which has been a priority for all of us", Paul said, according to Brian Windhorst of "We're looking forward to putting on an entertaining show in L.A".

We won't know what the player pool for the 2018 All-Star Game will be right now, but we can look back at last year's game and imagine how different it would have looked with these rules. The voters will still keep the same privileges as well, with fans making up 50% of voting for the starters, and current players (25%) and media (25%) making up the rest.

All-Star Game rosters and captains will be announced on January 18 while the reserves will be unveiled five days later. Voting will be open from Christmas Day until hours before the release of the starters. Coaches will select the reserves - two guards, three frontcourt players and two players from any position. The respective player's conference will not matter in their selection. Each All-Star Game coach will lead the team that includes the captain from the same conference.
