He was linked with a move away from the club all the way up until Deadline Day when his proposed move to Manchester City did not go ahead due to Arsenal's failure to sign AS Monaco forward Thomas Lemar.

Alexis held out all summer for the move, refusing a new deal at Arsenal and snubbing the advances of European giants Bayern Munich and PSG, waiting for City to make their move.

"If there is any negativity or you think that he's giving anything less than 100%, the players will sniff it and they will wean that guy out".

Sanchez was reportedly left angered by the proposed move falling through but has been told by City that they will try to sign him again in January, according to Goal's Sam Lee and Chris Wheatley.

"The transfer didn't happen because a player didn't go to Arsenal and everything collapsed", he revealed after helping City to a 5-0 win over Liverpool. "He's an Arsenal player", he added. We would have loved to have him here, but the market gives you these time limits and the rush is not good.

The 28-year-old Chile forward is out of contract at the end of the season but Guardiola was coy when asked if City would reactivate their interest in him in one of the next two transfer windows.
