NIA conducts more raids in Kashmir

The NIA sleuths also raided the houses of Shakeel Ahmed Bakshi, the patron of the Islamic Students' League, and his brother Showkat Ahmed Bakshi who is a leader of pro-independence Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front and Zamir Ahmed Sheikh, an aide of J&K Peoples' Democratic Freedom Party chief Shabir Ahmed Shah.

The leaders include Shia cleric and politician Agha Syed Hassan al-Mousvi in central Budgam and Ghulam Nabi Sumji in southern Bijbehara towns.

On Wednesday, NIA spokesman said that searches were conducted at 27 locations - 20 in Srinagar and seven in Delhi.

The NIA press release said that the raids were in connection with the Jammu and Kashmir terror funding case and LoC trade case. During searches fixed deposits of Rs 1 crore and "incriminating documents" and "suspicious financial records" and electronic devices were seized, the NIA said. Aga, his family members and an accounts manager, Mohammad Safdar, were reportedly questioned for several hours.

One of the places where raids were conducted belonged to Abdul Razak, a close aide of separatist Shabir Shah.

Besides Malik, separatist leaders Syed Ali Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq had announced to hold a dharna in New Delhi on Saturday.

"The raids and searches were carried out in connection with the ongoing probe into the funding of militancy and separatist leaders and to unearth evidence to check linkages between LoC traders and hawala operators and their links with Hurriyat leaders", they said.

The raids are being conducted also at various locations in Srinagar and frontier district of Kupwara. NIA is a carrying out the professional task assigned to them.

Watali, a top businessman who runs businesses outside India as well, is in NIA custody in Delhi.

Mittal said that no person has been arrested by the NIA in these raids. "They are suspected of fuelling secessionist and subversive activities in the State", IG NIA said.

As many as 34 companies of PoK were blacklisted to weed out any illegal activity on cross-Line of Control (LoC) trade routes after the recovery of drugs from a truck at Trade Facilitation Centre Salamabad Uri on July 21.

Meanwhile, Chairmen of both the factions of Hurriyat Conference (HC) Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Maulvi Umar Farooq and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Yasin Malik have chose to protest and court arrest at the headquarters of National Investigation Agency (NIA) in New Delhi on Saturday.
