SUBPLOT: The Gators staged a three-man quarterback battle during preseason camp that resulted in head coach Jim McElwain naming Franks the starter three days before the game.
The Wolverines went on to win the game 33-17.
Wilton Speight played the entire game at quarterback for MI with the exception of John O'Korn entering for two series in the second quarter.
All the secrets will be unearthed during Saturday's game, but this much is known: The Wolverines lost a lot of stars off last season's 10-3 squad while 10 Florida players will be serving suspensions.
The Wolverines broke in a new offensive line, with three new starters - Patrick Kugler at center, Michael Onwenu at right guard and Nolan Ulizio at right tackle.
"Our defense was wonderful", Harbaugh said. "So it's a group of guys in a unit or on a team that come together and do their job". For the first time in my lifetime, Michigan has a very good kicker.
The Gators had won 27 consecutive season openers, the nation's longest such streak, since a home loss to MS in 1989. That total looks even worse for Florida when you take away negative plays by the quarterbacks (6 carries, negative 14 yards).
With so many young players, it was hard to predict just how good MI football would be in 2017. "I want Jim, as well as all my coaches, to have the ability to make the selection of the uniforms they believe they need to make and the look as we roll out". I don't think we've ever made excuses for anything we've ever done or anything I've ever done.
MI linebacker Noah Furbush (59) and linebacker Mike McCray (9) celebrate a fumble-recovery by Furbush for a touchdown in the end zone in the second half of an NCAA college football game against Florida, Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017, in Arlington, Texas.
In September 2017, Nordin blasted a 55-yard field goal (very long by college standards) against Florida at AT&T Stadium. MI ran the ball effectively in a big game.
Nirmala Sitharaman is new defence minister, Piyush Goyal gets railways
There were no changes in the portfolios of the big three - Arun Jaitley , Sushma Swaraj and Rajnath Singh . Pradhan and Naqvi retained their portfolios of Oil and Gas and Minority Affairs respectively.
MI built a 10-3 lead - the Wolverines settled for a 25-yarder from Nordin after officials threw a flag on a touchdown catch by Kekoa Crawford (ineligible receiver downfield) - in the first quarter.
Jamal Milan blocked Morgan Hagee's 54-yard field goal attempt as time expired, and IL opened its second season under coach Lovie Smith with a 24-21 victory over Ball State on Saturday.
Chase McLaughlin missed a 44-yard field goal for IL with about nine minutes left and Crouch got intercepted by Bryce Cosby near midfield on the next possession.
Before that, Nordin committed to Penn State with the most epic kicker commitment video of all time. "They whooped us. I mean, plain and simple".
The Gators finished with just 192 yards of total offense, their fewest since logging 180 total yards against Alabama in the 2015 SEC Championship Game.
"I'm from south Florida", grinned starting safety Josh Metellus, who had three tackles and a forced fumble.
Holly Rowe of ESPN reports Speight wasn't pulled because of the interceptions.
There had been so much talk of Michigan's defense returning only one starter, but the defense was stifling and strangled the Gators' offense led by redshirt freshman quarterback Feleipe Franks and, later, Malik Zaire. When he found Notre Dame transfer Malik Zaire, the Wolverines forced almost all of his 17 second-half pass attempts to come under pressure.
"I just wanted to try to calm him down a little bit; that was a rough circumstance", Harbaugh said.
And that next will be Cincinnati for Michigan's home opener on Saturday. Wilton Speight will be back at quarterback and look to stabilize an offense filled with inexperienced skill players.
