It'll be interesting to see if Blomkamp is able to find success on the unique platform, and with the now underlooked style of short films.

Fans know Neill Blomkamp as the mind behind fan favorite film District 9 and the loosely tied Matt Damon movie Elysium, but he has been teasing a mysterious project for a while now.

The video showcases the tense action scenes and sci-fi creatures that have come to define his career, opening with a shot of the Eiffel Tower in a world where aliens have colonised the earth and are wiping out mankind.

Oats: Volume 1 is coming soon. "Adapt or die. Simple as that", the narrator ends. While details about plot and cast are still kept under wraps, viewers notice two actresses in the teaser which very look like Dakota Fanning and Sigourney Weaver.

There's also the possibility that Volume 1 might serve as a jumping off point for a feature adaptation, much as Blomkamp's earlier short films paved the way for the likes of District 9 and Chappie.

Calabar agog as Acting President Osinbajo visits
The Federal Government has pledged full support for the proposed Cross River 275km Super Highway and the Bakassi Deep Seaport. Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has arrived Cross River for a one-day visit to the state.

Originally from Johannesburg, South Africa, Blomkamp is best known for directing the dystopian sci-fi film "District 9", which he co-wrote with his wife, Terri Tatchell, and was produced by Peter Jackson.

According to comments made by Blomkamp on his Twitter account, the director has been toying with the idea of distributing the shorts via Steam, though has since stated that Volume 1 "could be entirely free", with YouTube used as a platform.

Oats Studios will stream the short films via the online gaming platform Steam.

The Oats teaser says that the studio's shorts will be "streaming" somewhere in the near future.
