Calabar agog as Acting President Osinbajo visits

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has arrived Cross River for a one-day visit to the state.

Our correspondent who was on the entourage of the Acting President reports that from the Margret Ekpo International Airport through IBB Way to the Palace of the Obong of Calabar, residents came out in their numbers to welcome Prof.

On his arrival, Professor Osinbajo proceeded to the palace of the Obong of Calabar, and later to the sites of some completed projects in the state capital.

He said: "Unity is very important".

He described the park as an industrial hub in Nigeria and Africa.

Osinbajo is expected to commission the Calabar monorail, the Calabar International Convention Centre and the Cross River Garment Factory.

According to reports, most of the casualties were the result of falling trees or structures, including a bus stop. The storm damaged 243 buildings and around 2,000 cars in the capital, Sobyanin tweeted on Tuesday.

He said the diversity of the country was the reason why other countries have respect for Nigeria. "We are committed to the transformation of the state and we know we will achieve what we have set out to do".

"When people speak of Nigeria and respect this country, it is because of the diversity; because of the strength in numbers".

Speaking, Gov. Ayade said his vision was to make the state the destination for investment in Africa.

"The traditional institutions are closer to the people and they know better what the people need; therefore, I suggest that the traditional institutions should be more involved in government", he said.

The Federal Government has pledged full support for the proposed Cross River 275km Super Highway and the Bakassi Deep Seaport.

The Acting President was later given a chieftain title in Efik tradition "Ada-idaha ke Efik Eburutu (a chief in Obong's Council)".
