The letter carrier's food drive has become the largest single-day food drive across the nation, and benefits millions of Americans who struggle to put food on the table.

Donations can be left in a bag near the mailbox and letter carriers will pick them up and deliver them to the Oregon Food Bank on May 13.

Examples of nonperishable items include peanut butter, canned soup, canned meats, canned vegetables, fruits and juices and boxed goods such as cereal, pasta and rice.

Saturday, May 13th, letter carriers in more than 10,000 cities across the country, will go around and collect food inside these blue bags. All collected food donations are delivered to a local food bank or pantry and stay in the donor's community. People should not donate food in glass or other breakable containers. Eastside Community Ministries Executive Director Jamie Trout said food will then be donated to the Muskingum County Hunger Network which is made up of 15 pantries and 4 hot meal programs. America's Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia will prepare over 6,000 meals daily for distribution to 55 locations in 9 of the 21 counties that we serve. Tomorrow though, she'll also be picking up bags of non-perishable food that residents can choose to leave by their mailboxes as part of the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. "I love it... When I leave that day, my truck is full with contributions", said Michael Eure, a letter carrier with the post office in Downtown Beaufort.
