Tillerson opened the meeting with a statement calling on all member states to enforce the existing sanctions, halt or downgrade diplomatic relations with the DPRK, and increase the country's isolation with new sanctions and with a tightening of existing measures.
The meeting was chaired by Rex Tilerson, Secretary of State of the United States, which holds the Council's presidency for the month.
Since 2006, the Security Council has adopted several resolutions demanding the DPRK stop its nuclear and missile activities, but those activities have accelerated.
The Russian Foreign Ministry, in a statement, said the support was conveyed in a U.N. Security Council ministerial meeting on the North Korea issue held in NY on Friday, at which Moscow was represented by Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov.
"We urge other partners with direct influence on North Korea to use their leverage to the full, with the aim of easing tensions and ensuring compliance with the expressed will of the United Nations".

He also reiterated China's proposal that North Korea halt nuclear and missile tests in exchange for the USA and South Korea stopping military exercises.
The United States and South Korea have been holding joint military exercises since early March. Additional patience will only mean acceptance of a nuclear North Korea.
