Mr Tillerson told CBS' Face The Nation, in an interview broadcast yesterday, that when Mr Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping met at Mar-a-Lago last week, they "had extensive discussions around the risky situation in North Korea", The Guardian reported.

Trump tweeted Saturday that "It was a great honor to have President Xi Jinping and Madame Peng Liyuan of China as our guests in the United States".

Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin said on Friday that the two sides would report back in 100 days on ways to make US-China trade more balanced.

"If you've seen the response from the world community, including some of the countries that you've mentioned, I think that they understand that the us acted appropriately and, in most cases, there is widespread praise from around the globe for the President's actions", Spicer added later, responding to a reporter who asked about the risk that the strike could draw Russian Federation or Iran into a broader conflict.

He's also criticized China for grabbing jobs that could otherwise go to Americans.

Chinese President Xi Jinping and President Donald Trump attend a dinner at Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in West Palm Beach, Florida. He also noted the importance of protecting human rights, and asked China to adhere to global norms in the seas of East Asia, Tillerson said. "We will be making additional progress".

The White House has downplayed expectations for a breakthrough on U.S-China issues like trade and tariffs, insisting that the 24-hour summit is mostly an introductory meeting for Trump and Xi.

In view of the regional threat now posed by North Korean missile tests and nuclear ambitions, he said, the Chinese "do not believe the conditions are right today to engage in discussions with the government in Pyongyang".

Tillerson, Haley issue differing statements on future of Assad in Syria
Russian Federation had its own military personnel at the Syrian military airport that the US struck with cruise missiles. Mevlut Cavusoglu said Saturday that the USA intervention was only "cosmetic" unless it removes Assad from power.

The phone talks came after Trump and Xi agreed on Friday (7 April) to work closely together to convince North Korea to curb its nuclear program in their first summit.

Calling the deployment very inappropriate, they warned that North Korea could carry out unexpected provocations if it feels its security is at stake.

"I think all of us are feeling very good about the results of this summit in terms of what it did for setting a very constructive tone going forward", added Tillerson. "It's important symbolism of the growing rapport between the two countries".

Tillerson insisted that Xi was not rattled by Trump's decision: "President Xi expressed an appreciation for the president letting him know and providing the rationale and said, as it was told to me, he understood that such a response is necessary when people are killing children".

Taking action against North Korea has been a sticking point in US talks with the Chinese.

He also last week signed a pair of executive orders focused on reducing the US trade deficit, an apparent shot at China, which accounted for the vast bulk - $347 billion - of last year's $502 billion trade deficit.

In a statement late on Saturday, the US Navy's Third Fleet said the strike group had been directed to sail north, but it did not specify the destination. It was the first direct US assault on the Russian-backed government of Bashar al-Assad in six years of civil war.

But the meeting appeared to be diplomatic, with both leaders agreeing to a new format for US-China talks.
