The Jets reportedly put on a full-court press to land Hightower over the weekend, including sending his mother Jets merchandise, taking Hightower out to dinner, giving him birthday cupcakes and posting the message "Happy Birthday Dont'a Hightower" on all of the screens inside the facility.

According to CBS Sports, the Jets had an offer on the table to Hightower worth over $12 million per year.

Dont'a Hightower has been the Patriots linebacker for five years. The deal was first reported NFL.com's Ian Rapoport. Hightower had 2.5 sacks in 2016 and was a key to New England's top-ranked scoring defense both in coverage and against the run.

His strip sack of Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan was widely credited by Patriots players as the turning point in New England's Super Bowl LI comeback. The one-time Alabama star racked up 61 combined tackles, two pass breakups and a forced fumble for the Super Bowl champion Patriots last season. The only domino remaining is that of Malcolm Butler.

There's still a path for Peterson to return to the Vikings, but the signs of his potential departure haven't stopped popping up.

Nick Foles is returning to the city where he had his most success.

Speaking on his LBC show, Mr Farage blasted: "I don't want these things ever to be part and parcel of living in a modern, major city.

It is believed that he is seeking a contract that would pay in excess of $10 million per season.

The 28-year-old Foles was drafted in the third round in 2012 by Philadelphia under Andy Reid.

There have been some good indicators that he has not been made a large offer by the Patriots.

The Arizona Cardinals have re-signed running back Andre Ellington to a one-year contract.

None of those players, however, are established National Football League starters like Hightower.
