World's best converge on Austin for match play

"I just need some time away with her to make sure that everything goes well, because this has been very, very tough for me", Day said.

Marc Leishman won that event with an 11-under 277 while Day shot 2-under and Rory McIlroy tied for fourth at 9-under.

With the golf's best - barring Tiger Woods, who is still recovering from a back problem - descending in Austin, Texas for this tournament, expect the World Golf Championships to throw up a few cracking contests.

Russell Knox is set to play in three of the inaugural Rolex Series events on this season's European Tour as the Scottish No 1 prepares to go all out in a bid to make next year's Ryder Cup in Paris.

McIlroy nearly drove the green on the short par-four 13th to set up another birdie and move in front, but Kjeldsen birdied the 14th to get back to all square and the European pair halved the next with birdies as well. If only two players in the group are tied, match play will be used to determine the playoff victor.

For each match in round-robin play, a win earns 1 point, a loss nets 0 points and a tie earns 0.5 points for each player in the match.

After pool play, the event is single elimination and matches will extend past 18 holes if necessary to determine a victor.

Sterling flips lower after United Kingdom sets Brexit talks trigger date
The Prime Minister will trigger Article 50 on March 29 and has insisted that Parliament will get a vote on the final Brexit deal. She will contact Tusk directly to launch negotiations in due course.

Japan's Hideki Matsuyama has one of the most hard draws as he will face South Africa's Louis Oosthuizen, who is 13-3 in this event over the last three years, veteran American Jim Furyk and Britain's Ross Fisher, who tied for third at the WGC-Mexico. He lost when Soren Kjeldsen finished with four straight birdies. Over the last 10 years, the worst seed to win was No. 21 (Matt Kuchar and Hunter Mahan).

World top-ranked golfer Dustin Johnson lost in last year's quarterfinals and he got no love in the draw for this week's event.

The top 64 in the world
rankings qualify for this week's £7.8 million event, but Open champion Stenson, Adam Scott, Rickie Fowler and Rose have all opted not to compete, while Adam Hadwin is also an absentee due to the fact he's getting married.

"In order to win a match play event, you've got to squeak out one or two wins where that wasn't very pretty", Spieth added. For example, No. 4 Hideki Matsuyama (+2100) is an especially unsafe group.

Jordan Spieth is listed at +1000.

Hideto Tanihara never trailed in a 4-and-2 victory over Spieth.
