Speaking on a Syrian TV channel, Bashar Ja'afari, the country's permanent representative at the United Nations, said that Israel's freedom to act in Syria's skies is over, referring to the claim that the Syrian army shot down an Israeli fighter jet last week.

Jaafari made his remarks a few days after Israel struck targets in Syria in an attempt to prevent advanced weaponry from reaching the Lebanese terrorist group Hezbollah.

Israeli deployed its Arrow system Friday when Syria fired missiles at its jets on a mission to destroy a weapons convoy bound for Hezbollah.

The official said the missile was identified as a ballistic threat and had a heavy warhead that could have landed inside Israel if not intercepted.

The Syrian media reported that the country's Defense Ministry claimed that one Israeli plane was downed and another was damaged from anti-aircraft fire. Without this support, the State would not have been able to move forward to fight extremism and intervention from overseas, the Syrian president stressed in the dialogue with the Russian-European Parliamentary delegation led by Vladimir Vasiliev, vice-president of the Council of the Russian State Duma.

A senior army officer said on Monday that Israel had fired its Arrow missile at a Syrian rocket which posed a "ballistic threat" during clashes over the weekend.

"The next time the Syrians use their air defense systems against our planes we will destroy them without the slightest hesitation", Lieberman said on Israel Radio. "Each time we discover arms transfers from Syria to Lebanon we will act to stop them".

In another two weeks, the Israel Defense Forces will declare the Magic Wand system, also known as David's Sling, as operational.

Israeli officials have repeatedly expressed concern that the survival of the Assad government would mean that a Shi'ite ally of Iran would remain along their border. Israel estimates that Hezbollah has thousands of more reserve fighters than it did in 2006.
