She was found guilty of fatal assault in company, with Chief Judge Made Pasek rejecting Connor's claim that all she did was separate her British boyfriend David Taylor and Wayan Sudarsa on the night of the deadly fight.

In the hours before Connor heard her fate, Taylor was sentenced to six years.

They are accused of attacking Wayan Sudarsa on Kuta Beach on the night of August 16, then leaving him to die.

Seeing the police officer, who was on duty in the area, she asked if he had seen the bag.

Despite Mr Taylor and Ms Connor both maintaining she did not throw any blows during the fight with Mr Sudarsa, prosecutors have criticised her for what they perceive as a lack of remorse and admission of guilt.

Taylor said he accepted the verdict, but the prosecutors said they would consider filing an appeal with the Bali High Court.

Connor was supported at court by her brother, David Pistidda, from Italy and his family along with her longtime childhood friend Ambra Bertoldi, who has been with her every day since her arrest.

"Sara is not guilty", he said before her verdict.

She has since repeatedly said they deserve the death penalty, something which was not on the table.

Connor, he found, had jumped on Mr Sudarsa's shoulders, effectively pinning him down.

The pair were not convicted of the more serious charge of murder after prosecutors recognised they had not meant to kill the officer.

When they realised Connor's purse had gone missing, Taylor confronted Sudarsa but did not get the response he was hoping for.

The couple checked out of their nearby hotel the next morning and moved to another homestay in Jimbaran where they went about their holiday, oblivious they say, to the officer's death until a full three days later. Ms Arsini immediately called her son who told her he was already at Sanglah Hospital morgue, where her husband's body was being held.

Connor pulled the officer's hair and he pulled her hair during the beach tussle.
