"I think it's every parent's worst nightmare that sends their kid to daycare", Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood told reporters.
Sarah Gable was recently charged for allegedly pushing a four-year-old girl down some stairs at the Child Care of the Future daycare center in Clifton Heights, Pennsylvania, on March 3 (video below). "We don't do this to children'". She was arrested and faces charges of assault for and endangering the welfare of a child.
The video footage shows a woman pushing a girl down the steps to a landing, lifting the girl up on the landing and looking up into the surveillance camera. "When I saw it air I was just like 'wow.' It still hurts", said Tavares.
A fellow daycare worker happened to be watching the newly installed camera at the time of the incident. "Her eyes were literally like 'help me'".
Tavares said the camera had not been placed above the steps because of any reports of bruises or injuries to any of the day care's children.
'Significant quantity' of infant remains found at Tuam religious home
He added: "Some also suspect that there was unofficial disposal of the remains of babies and infants who died at the homes". Furthermore, there've been calls for other homes around the country to be investigated after recent discoveries in Tuam.
"I was so upset". WATCH SURVEILLANCE VIDEO RELEASED BY POLICE In the video you can see the girl enter the picture at the top of the steps, when for seemingly no reason, Gable approaches from behind and shoves the girl down approximately six steps. "Why would you push a child down the steps.' And the way she did it was just so carelessly as if she'd been doing it", said Shawayne Tavares, the daycare administrator who was monitoring the new camera.
The little girl, who has not been identified, hurt her knee in the fall but returned to the facility on Monday.
Parents were notified of the incident via letter.
She is out on a $25,000 bail ahead of a trial.
