Oklahoma remains in a "widespread" flu activity category.

Health officials are also encouraging people to get the flu vaccine if they haven't, to wash their hands and stay away from others who may be showing flu-like symptoms.

"The flu virus can be extremely risky to people who have compromised immune systems, cancer, kidney disease and other chronic conditions", said Dr. David Priest, medical director for infection prevention at Novant Health.

Kathy Wakefield, director of nursing for the Ross County Health District, stresses that parents need to be smart about keeping children showing signs of flu-like illness home from school rather than run the risk of spreading it to other kids.
