Jose Mourinho: 'Manchester United will not catch leaders Chelsea'

Jose Mourinho praised Anthony Martial for his vital contribution to Manchester United's 2-0 defeat of Watford at Old Trafford but suggested the France worldwide still lacks confidence.

Mourinho confirmed Phil Jones will miss Saturday's game against Watford with a foot injury, but Wayne Rooney, who was absent from the win at Leicester through illness, is available.

United were upset when a quickly-taken free kick led to Martial scoring from Mata's pass.

The Red Devils are up to fifth in the Premier League table thanks to the win, which extended their unbeaten run in the top flight to 16 games.

"Why? Because Chelsea are a very good defensive team, they defend very well and defend with lots of players, very good players, and are very well organised".

"You work with the players and you know the players better".

Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata admits it "started to feel like it was one of those games again" before Anthony Martial wrapped up the points against Watford.

Republican senators to Trump: Putin is not your friend
Officially, the White House wouldn't comment, although previous accounts of this call never mentioned nukes or the New START deal. Trump also does not appear to be taking part in the usual briefings presidents receive before calls with foreign leaders.

The goal was created by Martial as he went past his defender in the box easily before picking out the midfielder to put the ball into the net to give United what they deserved.

It came to a head in December when Mourinho urged Martial to listen to him and not his representatives after the player's agent Philippe Lamboley suggested that he might be interested in a loan move to Sevilla in the January transfer window.

Indeed, the former Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder is industrious, creative and a serial victor - all traits "The Special One" loves in his players - and his stats this season are impressive...

United spent around 137 million pounds net as Mourinho arrived before the current campaign on players like world record signing Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Eric Bailly. "He came with the intention to stay two years, but in the minds of everyone the first year is going better than every expectation", Mourinho said. "So everything is balanced and I think our summer will be quite small".

"He's completely right. Of course we speak about it, of course we speak about what's next. We didn't kill with 3-0 but we killed it tactically".

"I know the players I want", he said.

Even without injured pair Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo, United kept a fourth consecutive clean sheet and Mourinho added: "We have very good matches from the defensive point of view".
